About Adnyamathanha

March 3 2007 Elders' Meeting, Port Augusta

What is Adnyamathanha?

Adnyamathanha is the language and culture of the Flinders Ranges, and one of the essential resources for understanding that region. Adnyamathanha language, Yura Ngawarla, has only around twenty fluent living speakers, and is a language and culture that will become extinct if it is not passed on. Adnyamathanha is an important part of Australia’s heritage that should be sustained, living and treasured

Why learn Adnyamathanha ?

Learning Adnyamathanha will give people access to their own heritage or the heritage of others, and experience in a language that has been part of Australia’s diverse peoples for thousands of years. Along with self respect, self worth, and many new friends, the program will give unique awareness of culture and community and a deeper, richer education.
